Educational outings
Every year the BIA children get to go on a camp, which Born in Africa organises, away from their disadvantaged environment for a few days, to enjoy a range of sports and games. Each camp has a theme and offers children the chance to develop a new skill- they learn responsibility, independence, confidence, teamwork, and working on a more positive self-image. Some of the themes used in these camps include HIV/AIDS awareness, art, culture, recycling, drama, etc.
During the school holidays we take the exceptional children who have excelled on special trips, which often have a career orientation. They visit hospitals, fire brigades, police stations, nature sanctuaries and such, in the hope that children learn about a wide range of occupations and are given information about the necessary requirements which need to be met to study further for a career in these fields. This is done to inspire the children, to give them a goal for their education.
