Individual support

individuele steunBIA engages with all our children throughout their school career. We focus on disadvantaged children who have the intellectual capacity to complete their schooling, but are hindered by a lack of finance (or support) at home. Thanks to our godparent project, each child is matched with a specific sponsor who generously provides the necessary financial resources, which ensures the child stays in school, and has the materials they require to succeed.

Born In Africa already has more than 400 children involved in this project. Because we prefer quality over quantity we will, in the future, focus primarily on supporting the children’s continuing education. This will entail guiding them through their primary, secondary and tertiary education, and thereafter gainful employment can be sought. Since secondary and tertiary levels of education can become tremendously expensive we offer god parents the opportunity to co-sponsor a child in these stages or to sponsor full scholarships. We need all the help and assistance you can provide, so please get in touch if you feel you would like to support a child in any way.

The basic annual cost of sponsoring a Born In Africa child is € 250. As soon as we receive your transfer, we will send you a comprehensive information pack about your specific, and very special godchild. We will share photographs of your godchild and information on his or her age, school grades, extra mural interests, family situation and living environment with you. We will also communicate with you four times a year, providing you with updates on your godchild’s progress and what Born In Africa programmes and activities they have been involved in. We will also be sending you our quarterly Newsletter which gives you an overview of Born in Africa’s activities every three months. Many of our godparents write letters, send photos, birthday gifts, and even come to Plettenberg Bay to visit their godchildren.

individual supportThrough your sponsorship, your child will receive school materials and uniforms. In addition, each child is individually supervised by one of our professional mentors- closely monitored at both home and school. The mentors are extremely important in the success of our programme. They are stable, reliable, respected members of their community and, in far too many cases, are the only sensible adult our children can rely on. All our children are provided with individual counselling during the year and participate in educational outings and annual weekend camps.
