Co-godparenting

Born In Africa is always looking for new foster parents to sponsor a child through their school career. Study brings with it huge costs, but a quality education is a priceless commodity.

We want every child working with BIA to have the opportunity to attend a school with good facilities and a high standard of teaching- Wittedrift High School is one such school, which provides a significantly higher quality of education in our area. Many of our children dream to attend Wittedrift High School, but are unable to afford it on their own.

A lot of our children are succeeding in obtaining their high school certificates, as a result of the educational support received from BIA. Many are eager to further their education at college or university. The cost of sending a young adult to an institution for skills or academic training is extremely expensive. However, the goal of BIA is to provide a holistic education which includes tertiary training which leads to empowerment and job opportunities.

For these reasons, BIA co-parenting has been created. This program requires that every BIA child studying receives financial help and support from two godparents, or a tertiary education grant, which enables the student to continue studying. Co-parenting helps to share the high costs and makes tertiary education more affordable for our generous sponsors.

Wittedrift High
Children at Wittedrift High are taught in both in English and Afrikaans. While most of our children are Afrikaans speaking, learning in English helps them to become bilingual. The pupils receive a high level of secondary education, which better prepares them for the rigorous demands of tertiary education. Born In Africa sponsors tuition fees, books, uniforms, full boarding, and transportation costs.

Higher Studies
Our Academic Coordinator at Born In Africa, works with older children as they near the end of their secondary education. This is done to provide career guidance, and to ensure that the children are ready for admission into tertiary education.
Through our vocational tests, the children begin to understand how their interests and talents can lead to a successful career.
Each child’s academic performance and motivation is observed- and children who have the right attitude and qualities will be assisted administratively for their choice of academic or skills training.

Scholarships for Wittedrift High, college and/or university are funded in two ways: by coparenting and sponsorship by specific grants.
