Onze mensen in Z.A.

Ons BIA-team in Zuid-Afrika bestaat uit 12 medewerkers, bijgestaan door extra tijdelijke werkkrachten die voor een korte periode aangenomen worden (zoals een zwemleraar tijdens het zwemproject). Het dagelijkse werk van BIA is in handen van een algemene, een educatieve, een academische en een sociale coördinator.

Onze individuele begeleiding wordt verzorgd door acht mentoren die halftijds zijn aangesteld. In totaal zijn er 5 opgeleide leesassistentes (waarvan 3 ook mentor zijn) die extra leeslessen geven.

Tevens worden wij ondersteund door actieve stafleden en een raad van bestuur, zowel in Zuid-Afrika als in België.

Isabelle De Smul-Brink
Functie: Algemene coördinator

Isabelle is algemeen coördinator. Ze netwerkt met de peetouders, doet de betalingen en de correspondentie. Andere taken die Isabelle voor haar rekening neemt zijn: nieuwe voorstellen indienen aan sponsors, nieuwsbrieven uitwerken en PR met België. Naast het vele bureauwerk leidt ze ook het bezoek van toeristen, bezoekers en peetouders in goede banen. Als algemeen coördinator heeft ze het totaaloverzicht van de projecten.
Belinda Coram
Functie: Academische  coördinator

Belinda houdt zich vooral bezig met voortgezet onderwijs. Ze doet de follow-up van tertiaire educatie en doet de beroepsoriëntatie voor alle graad 9-12 leerlingen in 3 scholen. Zij volgt de Wittedrift High studenten op en organiseert de kampen voor de graden 9-12. Tenslotte is ze ook verantwoordelijk voor alle PR in Zuid-Afrika.
Fiona Wilson
Functie: Sociale coördinator

Fiona doet huisbezoeken en werkt druk aan de database van BIA- kinderen. Het organiseren van workshops en netwerken op lokaal niveau behoort tot haar takenpakket. De selectie van nieuwe kinderen en de opvolging van mentoren is ook Fiona’s verantwoordelijkheid

Our BIA team in South Africa consists of 9 employees, and additional skilled people are hired to run specific projects (e.g. a swimming instructor for the swimming project).

The daily work of BIA is in the hands of three coordinators- general, academic and social.
Our individual social support is provided by 6 mentors.

There are also 5 trained assistants (3 of them also mentors) working in the schools assisting the teachers, particularly with reading classes.

We are also supported by our board of directors, both in South Africa and Belgium.

Isabelle De Smul-Brink
Function: General coordinator

Isabelle is our general coordinator who networks with godparents, as well as handling all the correspondence and business administration. Other tasks include the BIA newsletter, completion of proposals to possible sponsors, and general PR with Belgium. In addition to all this, she also acts as a guide to tourists, visitors and BIA godparents. As general coordinator she keeps an eye on all our projects within BIA.
Belinda Coram
Function: Academic coördinator

Belinda works with the Tertiary Education Project- preparing bursary applications, as well as monitoring the academic results and the social wellbeing of students. She does career guidance for the Grade 9-12 pupils in 3 schools, follows up on our Wittedrift High students, and arranges the camps for the children as well as holiday outings. She is responsible for PR in South Africa and teaches Afrikaans at the Born in Africa Crags Homework Centre.
Fiona Wilson
Function: Social coördinator

Fiona works with our eight mentors to ensure that social issues are monitored and dealt with, organises workshops for the mentors, and administers the database of all BIA children. She is also in charge of networking with other NGO’s, and teaches maths at the Born in Africa Crags Homework centre. The selection process (and follow up) for new children is also Fiona’s responsibility
