Renesha has just commenced her tertiary studies at the Emmanuel Nursing College, situated in Oudtshoorn. She is completing a 5 month “saalhulp” or ward assistant course. Once she has successfully completed this course, she will move on to commence her diploma in Nursing. Renesha grew up in Green Valley in a small home with her mother Annie and father Rico. Field of study: Administration Assistant

Zodwa Thandathu left her high school as she was not performing academically. She realised that her talents were more practically orientated. She enrolled herself at South Cape College just outside Plettenberg Bay, where she is currently a first year student studying Administration Assistant. The course is 3 years and comprises of a theoretical and a practical component. Zodwa commutes every day diligently the 70 km return trip to and from college. She lives in Kurland Village with her parents and siblings. The household has a very tiny monthly income which means that without BIA’s assistance Zodwa would not be able to study. We fund her course and cover her daily transport costs. Good luck Zodwa!

Zanda Gigi was raised in Kurland Village, The Crags. She went to move in with her granny when she was a little girl, as her mother could not take care of her due to personal reasons. Growing up in a household with a total number of 5 women taught Zanda how to be independent one day and that a woman can certainly stand proud without relying on a man. Something which is often still frowned upon in our society.
She has just enrolled successfully at the University of the Western Cape in Town to commence a 3 year BA degree. Her first choice was to study Law, but due to limited spaces, she was accepted for the Bachelor of Arts degree where she has managed to choose modules to assist her in the future when changing over to a law degree. Zanda’s attended an Afrikaans high school, her university lectures are all in English and her home language is Xhosa, so we take our hat off to this young lady and wish her all the success in the world!
