6-8 September 2013 – Girls boot camp
Another camp was held this weekend for a group of 32 grade 8 – 12 girls also at Ingwe, our main venue this year. On the Friday night, team posters were made and war cries shared with the whole group which was a lot of fun and laughs. We had a delicious cooked meal followed by a true life inspirational movie.
With the amazing weather on Saturday morning, team building games in the sun were the perfect thing to do (see the pictures with balloons!) and we then had a well-deserved swim in the pool. On our educational walk, we saw Impala and Fallow deer! After some time to socialize, our volunteers gave a very informative workshop on HIV, STDs and safe sex, and it was wonderful to see how much the girls opened up. The evening meal was a delicious potjie kos, made by BIA mentor Catherine Schoeman, followed by a first aid demonstration by Wesley. The evening ended with a fashion show where the girls made outfits from recycled materials in their teams, designed especially for the model each group selected.
It was another great camp at a great venue!
