Abigail Gouws
Abigail, or Abby as she is well known amongst her peers, hails from the community in The Crags where she grew up at home with her mom, dad and older brother. After attending The Crags Primary School she was determined to go to the prestigious school of Wittedrift High. From grade 8 until she finished secondary school in grade 12, Abigail strived to be the best of her grade and always knew she wanted to study further. When she was in grade 11, Born in Africa took her in the program and Abby finished high school in 2018 as the 2nd best learner of the whole school! Always having dreamt of going to the University of Stellenbosch, she applied for several studies and in the end, she got accepted to study Medicine! Her studies were challenging, but Abigail took it all in her stride and tackled them one by one. She did extremely well in all her 6 years of theoretical studies and then commenced her 2 practical years. In April 2025, Abigail completed her first part at Kimberley Hospital, for which she was remunerated. Because she was now a financially stable young woman, we decided it was time to say farewell. Abby is where she wanted to be and aims to be a doctor at local hospitals in the Western Cape, staying close to home and serving the people who need it most. Good luck, Abby!
